The article substantiates the idea that during the Mongol rule, the Armenians of Artsakh, being in close contact with the Mongols, preserved in their dialect some Mongolian words given as an independent source a new etymology for toponyms that contain the ghara component. These are the words khorum and taya that allow in the ghara component of toponyms Karabakh, Karaboghaz Gyol to see the meaning of a Mongolian word “big” and to give their equivalent etymology. A new etymology of the word forum, which is widely used in European languages, is also proposed.
